It turns out that the precarious situation (lack of equipment, overbooked ships) will extend beyond the “Chinese New Year” (February 12, 2021). Bookings that have already been confirmed are rejected, and the return of empty containers is sometimes not accepted in Germany. The price still plays a subordinate role, although there is the possibility of VIP loading at the appropriate price, prompt shipping is not guaranteed here either. In return, if the freight is canceled for any reason, costs in the four-digit range are incurred. In the general cargo area (LCL), the side costs rise continuously and drastically. The alternative options such as Asian rail traffic and also truck traffic from China are possible but still not a reliable option due to overbooking, problems at the borders and the upcoming weather conditions.
The volume of the air freight is still at a high level, especially in imports from China. In return, the backbone of air freight - passenger flights - is still reduced by around 90%. There has been a slight relaxation on individual lines, but prices are still at a relatively high level.
Our planning security is restricted by the COVID entry regulation passed by the federal government. Possible border waiting times in European truck traffic cannot be foreseen.
